Acupuncture is a procedure within Chinese Medicine where very fine needles are placed at specific points on the body. These specific points are stimulated to increase blood and energy flow to improve organ health, relieve pain, and restore normal function of the body.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, there exists a complex system of energy flow through the human body. In this system, passageways for energy are called meridians.
In a healthy, normal functioning body, the energy in these meridians flows freely resulting in a balanced system. When the flow of energy is interrupted from lack of exercise, poor diet, stress or injury, this energy is reduced, throwing your Qi or energy flow off balance. By performing acupuncture using the points associated with the particular meridian involved, this balance can be restored.
Does it hurt? Most of the patients are amazed at how painless acupuncture is. The needles are as fine as a strand of human hair. They often produce no sensation at all upon insertion. A slight tingling sensation may be felt which indicates that the patient is feeling the movement of "Qi" or energy. Patients usually find themselves deeply relaxed during the 20 - 30 minutes retention of needles.
What conditions can Acupuncture treat? According to the National Institute of Health (NIH) and the World Health Organization (WHO), Acupuncture has proven effective in the treatment of many common problems including addictions, anxiety, arthritis, asthma, carpal tunnel syndrome, chronic fatigue, colitis, common cold, constipation, dental pain, depression, diarrhea, digestive trouble, dizziness, dysentery, emotional problems, eye problems, facial tics, fatigue, fertility, fibromyalgia, gingivitis, headache, hiccup, incontinence, indigestion, irritable bowel syndrome, low back pain, menopause, menstrual irregularities, migraine, morning sickness, nausea, osteoarthritis, pain, premenstrual syndrome, pneumonia, reproductive problems, sciatica, seasonal affective disorder, shoulder pain, sinusitis, sleep disturbances, smoking cessation, sore throat, stress, tennis elbow, tonsillitis, trigeminal neuralgia, urinary tract infections, and vomiting. According to 2500 year old Chinese medical history, Chinese medicine treats the human body no matter what disease pattern they are presenting with.
How many treatments will I need? Since every person is unique in their health condition, the number of treatments will vary. The nature, severity and history of each patient's health concern as well as the individual patient are all factors that determine how many treatments will be required. A person in severe pain often comes twice a week; a person restoring function of the body may come once a week.
Are needles the only modality used? Acupuncturists may use several techniques including, but not limited to; the insertion of needles, moxibustion (heat therapy), electro-acupuncture, cupping, herbal medicine, homeopathy, flower essences, dietary guidelines, and may further recommend massage and exercise, such as Qi Gong.
Is it safe? Acupuncture is an extremely gentle and effective therapy received by over one fourth of the world's population. It has been utilized for over 5000 years in China. Acupuncture needles are stainless steel, sterilized and individually wrapped and disposed of after a single use. Acupuncture is also safe to use in conjunction with medications.
TESTIMONIALS
I was in severe pain after 2 car accidents left me bedridden. I have been up and moving - and playing with my children for 7 years now thanks to acupuncture, herbal medicine and moxa therapy with Mary Cetan, D.O.M. My daughter also sees Mary Cetan, D.O.M., for herbal medicine, homeopathy and nutritional therapy for seizures with much success. - Kim A., Homemaker, Sarasota, FL
I want to thank you for the truly beneficial treatments you have administered to my Mother. She had gone from one doctor to another seeking help for her purple, swollen feet and ankles. They were so tender she could not bear touching them. By the time you first saw her, they had begun ulcerating. After just one acupuncture treatment, she literally felt like dancing again. Through the use of acupuncture, nutritional therapy and herbal medicine, not only has she been spared the loss of her mobility, but her confidence and overall sense of well being have returned as well. Gratefully, - Sherry P. Bettendorf, Iowa
I had suffered with hot flashes for 20 years. They have decreased by 70% and I feel much more relaxed, less stressed and dealing with troubling things became easier. Mary Cetan, D.O.M., has helped me greatly in many facets of my life through the use of acupuncture, homeopathy, flower essences and herbal medicine, and I am so grateful. - Gretchen Z., Retired, Venice FL
I suffered from respiratory problems that just wouldn’t go away. It felt like my lungs had glue stuck to them both from the pressure on my chest as well as the lack of air movement. It left me exhausted and feeling debilitated. I was looking for a practitioner who was a Doctor of Oriental Medicine which includes certification in Chinese herbs as well as acupuncture. I was surprised to discover, however, that there were very few practitioners who met these qualification, Mary Cetan, Doctor of Oriental Medicine, was the one who stood out in this elite group of doctors. Through the use of acupuncture, herbs, diet change and the Adrenal Restoration Program, I started feeling better and noticed an improvement with each visit. Having my breathing return to a more regular rhythm was the greatest gift. My overall health improved and my reoccurring respiratory infections disappeared along with all my pharmaceutical prescriptions and inhalers I was previously taking. - Janet Z. Parrish, FL |
